This week I'm going to offer some more advice on how you can become a successful events promoter. Becoming successful in this industry can be a lot of work, and hopefully these articles will help point you in the right direction.

Networking is Key

Essentially it boils down to this; if you have no friends, no contacts, no following and, dare I say it, nobody who gives a damn about what you're offering then you're basically gonna sink like a stone and fast. Success in this game comes from having strategic alliances with all of the right people so to that end you must network, network and network!

There's any number of ways you could do this really. For starters, you could find an established promoter and help him out with his business for a while. In doing that you'll slowly but surely get to know his contacts and friends thus making them your contacts and friends. Another idea is to team up with some of the smaller promoters in your area, you'd be surprised how many seemingly big promotions are actually just a conglomerate of smaller promotions pooling their resources for greater gains.

You need to know everybody there is to know in your field and if I were you I'd get my ass down to every clubnight in my city that's playing music relevant to what I wanted to promote. Get to know all the djs, clubbers, promoters, club owners and you'll be on firmly solid ground to start promoting your own events. Oh and don't forget the internet! The internet has loads to offer potential promoters these days; try joining an online music community to meet and share ideas with likeminded individuals, you might even meet local artists and promoters that you can collaborate with. If you already have a night or two under your belt, or you are an artist yourself, put some of your dance music mixes online to let potential clients know what your nights are all about and hopefully tempt them into coming along.
Networking is key!

Remember who the heck you're doing this for!

First things first, you should never plan an event that suits you more than the clubbers you want to attract. It seems obvious to say that but you'd be surprised by how many people overlook this when planning event and fall flat on their faces, let me give you an example. You're putting on a UK garage night and have the opportunity to book Shola Ama to do a live PA at the event but opt against it because you can't stand her music. Well the chances are that you've made a huge mistake here as regardless of what you personally think of her, she is a top draw who will get tons of people into your club and therefore earn you money.

Of course these types of considerations won't always be with regards to hiring talent, sometimes it'll be the decor, the price, or even having stalls set up in the club that sell novelty items. The point is that everything you do when you're planning and preparing this event must be with the clubbers in mind and not yourself.

That's it for this part, guys; keep a look out for my next article for even more club promotion advice! Stay tuned!
